Intern Orientation to Emergency Ultrasound: Two days of intern orientation are dedicated to an introduction to UTHSCSA Emergency Medicine Residency ultrasound training requirements, UTHSCSA Center of Emergency Medicine ultrasound policies and procedures, equipment, knobology, image acquisition, image optimization, image storage requirements and a core application overview.

PGY-1 Required Ultrasound Rotation: 2 weeks dedicated ultrasound block during intern year

Didactic session for each core ultrasound application

  1. Ultrasound in Trauma
  2. Procedural Ultrasound
  3. Biliary Ultrasound
  4. Aortic and Inferior Vena Caval Ultrasound
  5. Bedside Echocardiography
  6. Pelvic Ultrasound (Identification of Pregnancy)
  7. Soft Tissue Ultrasound

PGY-3 Senior Ultrasound Elective: 4 week advanced ultrasound elective

Introduction to expanded ultrasound applications

  1. Renal Ultrasound
  2. Deep Venous Thrombosis
  3. Musculoskeletal Ultrasound
  4. Ocular Ultrasound
  5. Advanced Procedural Ultrasound
  6. Pulmonary Ultrasound
