Dr. Cooley graduated from Texas Tech Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in 2001. He completed his residency through the SUNY-Buffalo Emergency Residency program in 2004. After residency, Dr. Cooley completed at an EMS Fellowship through SUNY-Buffalo/Erie County Department of Health and obtained a Master of Public Heath during that time from SUNY-Buffalo. Dr. Cooley maintained different faculty positions with SUNY-Buffalo EM Residency through Erie County Medical Center. He also worked for the Erie County Health Department as Medical Director for the Specialized Medical Assistance Response Team (SMART) from 2007-2011. In addition, Dr. Cooley served as Medical Director for several EMS agencies in Western New York. He sat on the Western Regional Emergency Medicine Advisory Committee and served as Chair from 2008-2010. In addition, Dr. Cooley also served on the State Emergency Medicine Advisory Committee in Albany, NY from 2007-2011. In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Cooley has been involved in developing Emergency Medicine and EMS in Vietnam through the Good Samaritan Medical/Dental Ministry since 2007. He joined the UTHSCSA faculty in October, 2011.

Following a 10 year career as a Paramedic / Firefighter, Dr. Sparkman received his MD from UT Southwestern, Dallas, TX in 1996. He completed his Internship training at Parkland Memorial Hospital in 1997 and Emergency Medicine Residency at Summa Health System in Akron, OH in 2000. He joined the faculty at the UTHSCSA in July 2000. Dr. Sparkman is Medical Director of the San Antonio College EMS Associate Degree Program, San Antonio College CME EMS Academy, and Air Medical. He has also served as the Medical Director of University Hospital's Emergency Department. Additionally he has served as the co-chair of the Emergency Center Design committee and the EM liaison for UTHSCSA Emergency Medicine and many of the EMS services in the surrounding region. Dr. Sparkman leads a team to revise our Emergency Center Triage guidelines and actively participates in multiple committees including Acute Care, Product Evaluation, Transfer Review, STRAC Regional Cardiac and Stroke Care.

Dr. Kaori Tanaka is Board Certified in Emergency Medicine and a faculty member in the Emergency Department. She joined UTHSCSA in 2016. Currently, she is an Assistant Clinical Professor, Director of Special Operations and Assistant Director of the EMS Fellowship.

Dr. Miramontes started his Medical and EMS experiences starting in High School as a Volunteer Firefighter in the Sierra Foothills of Northern California. His educational experiences led him to Critical Care and Emergency Nursing for total of ten years.
