Dr. Muehlberger is board certified in Emergency Medicine. He has been a UTHSCSA faculty member since 2013 and is an Assistant Clinical Professor.

Dr. Muehlberger graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1989 with a B.S. in Physics. He served as a US Air Force pilot from 1989-1996, including combat missions and service in contingency operations in the Persian Gulf, Cuba, Bosnia, and Somalia. In 1996 he matriculated to the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences. From 2000-2003 Dr. Muehlberger was a resident in the Wright Patterson AFB/Wright State University Dayton, OH, where he was a chief resident and was recognized with multiple awards for research, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and Pediatrics. In 2003 he was assigned as Medical Director and Element Chief for the Emergency Department (ED) at Yokota AFB, Japan. From 2005-2008 Dr. Muehlberger served at the United States Air Force Academy ED, where he was Flight Commander and Medical Director. Dr. Muehlberger deployed as a Critical Care Air Transport Team physician to Iraq and Afghanistan in 2006. In 2008 he was transferred to Wilford Hall Medical Center, where he served until his retirement in 2013. During that tour, Dr. Muehlberger served as Squadron Commander for the Air Force’s largest Emergency Department, Urgent Care Center, EMS, Family Health, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Women’s Health clinics. He deployed with United States Special Operations Command to Iraq in 2009 and Afghanistan in 2011. Dr. Muehlberger’s military awards include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, and Air Medal. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the Uniformed Services University. Dr. Muehlberger works as a part time contract physician at San Antonio Military Medical Center ED and is a faculty member of the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium Emergency Medicine Residency. He is a founding member of, and works clinically at, Inwood Emergency Care Center, a private free standing ED. Dr. Muehlberger has participated in medical missions to Mozambique and Guatemala. He serves in First Aid ministry at Oak Hills Church. Dr. Muehlberger is past president of BASIS San Antonio Medical Center School Boosters.
