Biosketch: Dr. Garvin began her medical career working for five years as a Registered Nurse. While working in the PICU at Children's National Medical Center in Washington DC, she decided she wanted to have more input into patient care decision making. She completed her pre-medical studies at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, before attending University Of Maryland Medical School in Baltimore, MD, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2006. Her interest in Emergency Medicine took her and her family to the University of Cincinnati for residency. Having always enjoyed the challenges of critical care, she developed an interest in Neurocritical care, a specific niche of critical care. She completed a Neurocritical care fellowship in 2012. As faculty at the University Of Texas Health Science Center, she focuses on Neurocritical care while still keeping herself active as an Emergency Physician. Her other main focus is education which has been a passion since medical school. Most of her off-service time is spent working on educational initiatives, developing curricula and teaching, from students to other faculty. She enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters, and exploring her new home, Texas.
